History

Investigations are ongoing with regards as to the precise origins of the club, however we do have some details going back to the 1930s.

There have been several teams operating from Washington, perhaps peaking at six during the mid 60s. Washington CC were members of the Durham Coast League until 1968 when, due to the lack of a ground following the closure of the F- Pit they went out of existence. Playing at several grounds including Morris Park [ Dales Estate] Washington Grammar School, Spout Lane, and Glebe Welfare Ground, before settling at our present ground in 1975.

In 1972, the reformed club were members of the North East Durham League winning many cup competitions and second division titles, though never being successful in winning the League Championship. 2005 saw Washington CC rejoining Durham Coast Cricket League.

Junior cricket re-emerged at Washington in August 2000, when an Under 11 team took part in the South Shields kwik cricket festival. Growing from there we established teams at Under 11s/13s/15s/18s playing junior cricket in the Durham County League.

In 2004 Washington CC became members of the Durham Coast League with teams being represented at all age groups.

Currently there are six first team players who have progressed through the juniors teams, The success of junior cricket within the club has required us to enter two teams in each of the 13s/15s league together with a team in 11s/18s.
