Rarely do opportunities present themselves, whereby, existing, successful organisations are able and willing, to work closely together in further development and promotion of junior cricket within the County of Durham.

The impetus of change which prevails at this present time, is being developed and implemented by three very forward thinking junior cricket leagues in conjunction with the Durham Cricket Board.

The Durham Coast League, Durham Senior League and the Tyneside Senior League have over the past two years met on several occasions with a view to re structuring junior cricket in the County, These meetings have been cordial, with compromises being undertaken by all parties; with resultant agreement that an Under 15s competition will commence in 2008. The executive are committed to organising and implementing a similar competition for age groups 11s and 13s. Hopefully they will be operational within the next two years.

Aims and Objectives

Season 2008 Under 15s

Each League will retain its own identity and autonomy. They alone will make decisions regarding a separation of their league in the initial stages of the competition. The more pragmatic solution would be a North/South split which will reduce travel and organisational costs.
The first phase of the mini league competition will commence on April 27th and completed by June 23rd. The mini league finishing positions, will determine at which level a particular club will participate in; and will highlight the stronger/ weaker sides in that years competition.

The second phase of the competition (downloadable here) will come under the auspices of the Durham Cricket Board Youth Executive. Fixtures will commence on July 7th, Semi finals will be played on Aug 11th. Level 1 final venue Riverside ground Chester le Street possibly first week in September. Level 2/3/4 finals will be played at other prestigious grounds around the County.
Hopefully, this new exciting venture will not only improve the technical abilities of young players, but also develop them as a person in a friendly and enjoyable environment.
