History

Easington Colliery Welfare Cricket Club along with Castle Eden, Dawdon. and Peterlee were founder members of the Under 18's East Durham Junior League in the early 70s. This competition proved to be the forerunner of junior cricket in the Durham Coast League, During the formation years the team was run by Gordon Gowland who through his efforts produced many first and second team players.

For many years Easington CW CC only operated one team but since 2001 the club has developed significantly, this in all probability have been due to eager coaches who have forged links with the local comprehensive and primary schools in the area. The numbers of youngsters attending coaching sessions necessitated the club fielding two teams in the Under 13s division. In the forthcoming season [2008] the club will again field two teams Easington Yellows and Greens.

Several of the clubs junior players have gone on to play professional football probably the most well known is Steve Harper the current Newcastle United goalkeeper.
